Improvisational Time Capsules - Meditations

David Cain is a composer, performer and member of the award-winning improv trio, Wertico Cain & Gray. His latest album, MEDITATIONS, is the story of improvisational time capsules, moments of musical meditation. The spontaneous recordings were inspired by the memory of Cain’s composer-mentor, Dr. Roque Cordero. Cain says: “Roque taught me the importance of connecting to musical flow through daily improvisational practice, leading to idea development, orchestration... resulting in possibilities that might exist outside the usual boxes of melody, harmony, structure, and norms.”

Describing his piano improvisations as ‘meditations with the muse,’ David Cain brings together a lifetime of musical influences that ‘honor the past and welcome the future’. Before recording each improvisation, Cain would “ask the muse for inspiration and guidance.” The results: each improvisation creates its own atmosphere: elegiac and ecstatic, soulful and blithe…
