from Barbara Dennerlein

About that bass
Actually the website talkbass is almost all about - the bass, of course. But there are other topics on the blog, including the recent one "Masters of the Hammond B3", which begins with a video by Barbara Dennerlein. Is it because of her bass playing?

"This is so good it blows what’s left of my mind. Barbara Dennerlein. Organs weren’t cool to me back in the day. Pfffttt! My grandma plays the organ. WRONG!"

The Hammond story
An article about the Hammond organ, written by Bernhard Lösener, was published in the German magazine "Keyboards" in February. It describes the sound generation with tone wheels, mixing the sound with the drawbars, and the technical causes responsible for the vibrant, organic Hammond sound. No question that the role of the Leslie speaker is mentioned, and after so much detailed knowledge-sharing about the archaic-looking technique the author comes to the conclusion that the instrument also expected and deserved a dignified access: it is not just pushing a power switch, but the procedure works like this: "Press the Start button for about eight seconds. Now you can turn on the Run switch, the Start button is held for four seconds and then released After about half a minute, the organ is at the start (and the honour saved)".
