The Suffers bring Gulf Coast soul to SFJazz
By Aidin Vaziri Published 7:02 pm, Tuesday, June 6, 2017
The Suffers, the Gulf Coast rock ’n’ soul band that draws its powerhouse sound from a swampy mix of gospel, reggae and Latin influences, come to the SFJazz Center on Saturday, June 10.
Led by the vocalist Kam Franklin, the group has put in time on the late-night television circuit, performing on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and “The Daily Show.” Its song “Gwan” was also featured in an episode of “Mr. Robot.”
The Suffers’ self-titled debut, released in 2016, has a delicious retro feel that the band amplifies with its electric live show, part of the San Francisco Jazz Festival.
