WBGO Jazz88.3FM presents harpist Brandee Younger and her musicians in a lunchtime concert at Newark’s Gateway II. Admission is free!
This young harpist plays in a style reminiscent of Dorothy Ashby and Alice Coltrane, yet has developed a beautiful, fresh sound all her own. She has worked with jazz royalty including Ravi Coltrane, Jack DeJohnette, Reggie Workman and Charlie Haden, and hip-hop and R&B producers and artists Lauryn Hill, Common and John Legend.
The Brandee Younger Quartet is supported by a powerhouse rhythm section: drummer EJ Strickland and bassist Dezron Douglas, with Stacy Dillard on tenor and soprano saxes. The ensemble has been featured at venues and festivals across the country, including WBGO, the Kennedy Center, Bohemian Caverns, New York City’s Winter Jazzfest and the Detroit Institute of Arts.
