Letter from Daniel Vernhettes

Dear Jazz Friends,

Our latest publication (in French) pays homage to Alfredo Espinoza, the Chilean sax player who played in France, Argentina and Chili during the1960s-80s. "El Chileno" is almost totally overlooked in most of the European countries. This a shame as the was probably the only genius that was playing classic jazz during this period.

I have now gathered 140 recordings on which he is featured, many of them absolutely incredible, ranging from 1965 to 2010. The last one I just received are:

- two tunes of the Bottle System, recorded at the Alcazar of Paris in 1971
- four extraordinary tunes recorded in trio at the 1971 Jazz Band Ball in Paris
- ten sides recorded on October 30, 2000 with trumpeter Boss Quéraud and other musicians in Paris
- ten tunes coming from the CD Espinoza/Danneman, recorded in 2002 in Chili.

But I can burn, on demand, a selection of mp3 titles chosen in the list that is displayed on: http://www.jazzedit.org/french/Alf/recordings.html
8 titles can be heard on this page.

We still have a hundred booklets "Hommage à Alfredo Espinoza" (30 euros postage included)
The booklet tells Alfredo's biography and contains photographs of the various band he played with. A discography closes the work.

Still available on our site www.jazzedit.org:
Big Boy (35 copies in French), Jazz Puzzles 2, Jazz Puzzles 1 and Traveling Blues (Tommy Ladnier's stupendous biography), all in English.

Amicalement, Dan Vernhettes 0033 1 46 70 24 01
