Broward Center for the Performing Arts - Amaturo Theater
201 SW 5th Avenue, Ft. Lauderdale FL 33312
The world of jazz trumpet has traditionally been dominated by men and few women have broken through jazz’s glass ceiling, but the young Canadian jazz trumpeter, Bria Skonberg is changing that scene. On Wednesday, April 13, 2016 the Gold Coast Jazz Society will present the Bria Skonberg Quartet as they perform a jazz program, “Brass and Velvet, The Music of Louis Armstrong, Anita O’Day and More.” The concert takes place at the Amaturo Theater of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 SW 5th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale at 7:45pm. Single tickets are available for $50 per person. Students and teacher tickets are $10 with valid ID. To purchase tickets call the Broward Center AutoNation Box Office at 954-462-0222, online at www.browardcenter.org or www.goldcoastjazz.org .
Hailing from Chilliwack, BC, Canada and now living in New York City, award winning trumpeter/vocalist/composer Bria Skonberg is "poised to be one of the most versatile and imposing musicians of her generation" claims the Wall Street Journal. A jazz triple threat, Skonberg “looks like a Scandinavian angel, plays like a red hot devil and sings like a dream” and "radiates an energy that is so refreshing to see, and her compositional chops are on par with her ability to swing" said legendary jazz guitarist, Bucky Pizzarelli. The jazz upstart has garnered numerous awards include the Jazz Journalists’ Association nomination for “Up and Coming Jazz Artist of the Year,” the Downbeat Magazine Rising Star Critics Poll, the New York Bistro Award for “Outstanding Jazz Artist” and awards from Hot House Magazine.
