The Japanese term néo refers to a tangible part of music, and at the same time an abstract sense of its source.
Kaoru Watanabe felt the pull of heritage, and left his skater kid life in St Louis to work and play with Kodo in Japan for 10 years. Now in New York, he's put it all together into a beautiful project that unites Japanese instrumentation and traditional forms with modern improvisational methods and avant sounds on his upcoming release Néo (drops May 6 2016).
