Letter from Alexa Morales ....

This is August, Claudio!

The Stern Grove Festival with Pacific Mambo Orchestra was amazing. After that, we all needed some R&R! So I'm back from several gigs in Nevada with the Reno Jazz Orchestra, after three woodsy weeks as artist-in-residence at Oakland Feather River Camp. We had a marvelous music week, populated by my fellow teachers/musicians Ami Molinelli (Brazilian percussion), Jonathan Alford (piano) and Vince Mansel (bass)! Because of their presence, we were able to do three latin jazz performances highlighting the music I have loved all my life. It only took eight years at band camp to get my own band there!

During my extended stay in the Plumas National Forest, I also taught yoga, salsa aerobics, the Pacific Mambo Dance, and voice lessons. One camper who has a lovely relaxed jazz tone told me that my voice lesson from the previous year "changed his life" because it taught him to stop pushing and focus on what his voice was naturally best at -- I can't remember it, but I'll take his word for it! I do always strive for positive reinforcement, and apparently it worked!
