JazzWax yesterday was named the 2015 Blog of the Year by the Jazz Journalists Association during the organization's annual awards party at the Blue Note jazz club in New York. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to attend, but jazz writer and distinguished jazz professor David Adler was kind enough to accept the JJA award on my behalf. Thank you, David for your kind words.
A big thanks to the JJA and its president, Howard Mandel, for all of the hard work, to all of the journalists who voted for JazzWax, and to Ross Porter and everyone at JAZZ.FM91 in Toronto, who have been staunch supporters of this blog from the start. And hats off to the superb writers who were nominated in the same category: Patrick Jarenwattananon (A Blog Supreme), Ethan Iverson (Do the Math) and Doug Ramsey (Rifftides). Wonderful to be in such company.
Most of all, this award is for all of you who read me each day, send along emails of encouragement, catch JazzWax typo-s, offer elaborations on artists, comment on Facebook, re-Tweet my posts and make JazzWax a rich community experience. And to think I gave critic Terry Teachout a hard time in 2007 when he insisted I start a blog. Glasses raised!
