Juvae Jazz sets fundraiser

DECATUR – The Juvae Jazz Society has arranged a Sunday afternoon of fun with the Dixie Daredevils. 

Featuring trumpet virtuoso Brian Casserly from the St. Louis Cornet Chop Suey band, the music will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at Lock Stock and Barrel. Tickets for the fundraiser are $15 at the door. Food will be available.

Juvae Jazz puts on the Central Illinois Jazz Festival each winter, one of the best and most popular festivals in the country. Festival director Maggie Parker-Brown brings in world class musicians from California, New York, St. Louis, Chicago. The 41st festival is Feb. 5-7.


The Dixie Daredevils, a Central Illinois group, is the house band at the festival. Drummer John Sluzalis is the long-time leader. Harlan Geiser and Charlie Stokes play trombone with Millikin University music professor Perry Rask on saxophone and clarinet. Terry Brennan of Decaur is the piano player, with John Miller on bass.
