My name is Peggy Stern, and since its inception, I have been the Artistic Director of the Ritenuto Foundation, a 501 c 3 organization dedicated to the presentation of fine music.
For 12 consecutive years we have presented The Wall Street Jazz Festival "where the traditions meet the progressives, and all the leaders are women". This is a free outdoor event held in lovely Uptown Kingston, NY. The Festival is held each year on Labor Day weekend. This year it will be held on August 29th.
The Festival was founded in 2004, with the principle of women-led ensembles. It differs from being a women’s festival, in that the women are free to choose their own personnel; simply said, the bandleaders are in charge of the music they present.
The presentations have been elegant and professional, but the environment has been intimate enough to be very personal. We intend to keep that hometown flavor; it works in our favor to see neighbors enjoying this world-class music for free. We are also drawing an audience from beyond our borders, from Albany to NYC.We have been growing each year; people stream into the street of our festival all evening; estimates of numbers are well beyond 2000 at this point.
The Festival has developed into a very precious community event, very beloved. We are particularly proud of the level of music we are presenting, and consider it a great gift to the community ( and a free one at that!) However, it costs a great deal of money to continue to produce this yearly event, which is why we are asking for your help this coming year, 2015.
