AT LAST ~ Charlie Spivak & His Orchestra

AT LAST - Charlie Spivak & His Orchestra ~ Garry Stevens ~ The Stardusters 1942. Columbia Records.
Charlie Spivak was often billed as "The Sweetest Trumpet In The World" . In my opinion, Spivak, Harry James, & Billy Butterfield & a few others, were probably some of the best "sweet" trumpet players to come out of the "Big Band Era" . He started out in the early 1920's and by the time he formed his orchestra in 1939, he had already played with such orchestra's fronted by , Paul Specht, Ben Pollack, The Dorsey Brother's, Bob Crosby,
Tommy Dorsey, & Jack Teagarden.

The Stardusters , consisting of Glen Gaylon, Curt Purnell, & Dick Wylder started out as a trio while still in high school and upon graduation , they decided to follow their dreams of a vocal career, instead of attending Yale. By 1939 and after several guest appearances, they landed their very own radio program on NBC.

June Hutton , Ina Ray Hutton's younger sister and once member of The Quintones vocal group, joined the original Stardusters in approx. 1940 and the group was complete. They recorded WHEN I SEE AN ELEPHANT FLY, AT LAST, I SURRENDER DEAR, A WEEKEND IN HAVANA, THIS IS NO LAUGHING MATTER, BROTHER BILL, & I REMEMBER YOU and a few others with Charlie Spivak's Orchestra. They later recorded with several popular vocalists of the day, including Evelyn Knight, with whom they recorded the 1949 hit , A LITTLE BIRD TOLD ME.
