Elizabeth Eckert ....

June 11, 2014
Vanderbilt University faculty member and artist Elizabeth Eckert (“Bloomington,” 2010) has established Creative Immersions, a program that provides high-school students with hands on musical experience.
“Student vocalists, band members, and stagehands learn from successful recording artists, professional studio musicians, master sound technicians,” says Eckert, whose second album, titled “Like a Piano” and produced by Grammy winner Paul Worley, will be released later this year.
“I had the idea to take nationally recognized faculty from Vanderbilt, Nashville studio musicians, vocalists, and production experts and pair them with the raw talent of teens,” says Eckert, when asked about the inspiration for Creative Immersions. “I wondered what would happen if we all got together for a unique and fun, artistic immersion over a three-day period during a normal school schedule.”
Creative Immersions successfully premiered in Atlanta in spring 2014, where Holy Innocents' Episcopal School Band Director Mike Glaze said “This program takes a very specific genre of music that most of our students are very into - in the pop world, in the rock world - and merges it really well with all the things that we as directors are teaching inside our classrooms already.”
And the result? “We’ve all been amazed as students and professionals perform in a concert of original music orchestrated just for their school,” says Eckert. “We’ve seen performance levels far beyond what others would imagine, students who have had fun, yet who are keenly aware of the hard work it takes to be successful, and parents, faculty, and alumni who are in awe of what has been accomplished.”
Creative Immersions is currently booking schools for it’s 2014-15 season.
