"It's a women thing" was a concert week motto at Munich's jazz club "Unterfahrt" in January. Women who made her career in jazz, regarded as a domain of men, were featured.
The Barbara Dennerlein Duo concert on January 14 was the highlight of the concert series. The organist was accompanied on stage by Christoph Holzhauser on drums. It was the first collaboration with Barbara for the 29 year old versatile musician who is well known at the Unterfahrt where he had performed with several bands before.
The concert was a home match for Barbara and completely sold out. She had given an interview to the BR Bavarian Radio Station where she explained: "The Hammond organ is rarely presented as lead instrument like in my performances, so people usually have no idea about how rich in different sounds this instrument is. It is fantastic if it is being played with hands and feet. Then you have a huge range of sounds at your disposal and you can express every feeling."
The interview (in German) is on the web as podcast:
