No stranger to Hartford audiences, the cutting-edge cornetist/composer Taylor Ho Bynum and modern jazz vocalist June Bisantz are back in town for encore performances, bringing with them fresh, new material to present in their individual concerts in the capital city.
Bynum, an acclaimed bandleader who's also noted for his significant collaborations with such avant-garde icons as Anthony Braxton and Bill Dixon, will be celebrating the release of his sextet's new recording, a work called "Navigation." Leading his combo, the new music maestro is back for an encore performance at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, at Real Art Ways, 56 Arbor St.
Bisantz, whose recent, acclaimed release, "Let's Fall in Love," is an elegant homage to Chet Baker, also comes to town bearing fresh material as she taps into her ongoing Fred Astaire project, plus new, freshly-baked Baker goods in her performance at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Japanalia Eiko, 11 Whitney St., Hartford.
Bynum leads an ensemble that includes the ground-breaking guitarist Mary Halvorson, plus alto saxophonist Jim Hobbs, bass trombonist and tubaist Bill Lowe, bassist Ken Filiano and drummer Tomas Fujiwara.
