With jazz, classical and an eclectic mix of other offerings, the Corning-Painted Post Civic Music Association recently rolled out the lineup for its milestone 85th season and put season subscriptions on sale.

Civic Music, a volunteer-run non-profit, is known for bringing top-notch touring artists to its host venue, the Corning Museum of Glass Auditorium, and the 2013-14 season is no exception, said Civic Music spokesman Hank Jonas.

The six-concert series opens Sept. 14 with the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, a Grammy Award-winning 16-member big band from New York City that has been in existence for nearly 50 years. Currently led by director John Mosca, the band plays “swing, 70’s-style jazz-funk, ballads with complex structures and avant-garde tunes with modern rhythms,” according to Civic Music.

The series continues Oct. 25 with Cuban classical guitarist Manuel Barrueco, a “superb instrumentalist possessing a seductive sound and uncommon lyrical gifts,” according to Civic Music. Barrueco will perform with Cuarteto Casals, a Spanish string quartet.
On Nov. 23, the David Grisman Quintet will perform his blend of bluegrass and jazz, which he calls “dawg music.”

Grisman, a mandolin player, has been a “guiding force in the evolving world of acoustic music as a composer, bandleader and producer,” according to Civic Music. He has collaborated with The Grateful Dead’s Jerry Garcia, Stephane Grappelli, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, Earl Scruggs, James Taylor and Doc Watson, among others.
