The Davis Youth Flute Choir directed by flutist Maquette Kuper is accepting applicants to join its annual summer Flute Camp from July 8 to 18.

The students will perform its 30th Annual Summer Music Concert, featuring both classical and jazz music on Thursday, July 18, at 7:30 p.m. The choir, directed by Maquette Kuper, will perform in atrium of the Davis Art Center at 1919 F Street.

There are two flute choir levels for students to join. The Junior Flute Choir is for students in grades 7-9 and the Senior Flute Choir is for students in grades 10-12.

Students wishing to join the junior choir must be proficient on the instrument, read music well, perform all notes from low C to high G, and have a basic understanding of rhythm. Usually students who have completed one year of advanced band instruction at the elementary school level are qualified.

The junior choir trains students to improve ensemble skills through critical listening focusing on elements such as rhythm and intonation, and helping the student to be more highly aware of their individual part as it relates to the group. The junior choir students are also introduced to the alto and bass flutes. This choir meets weekdays, Monday through Friday and Monday through Thursday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Davis Art Center. To register, call the Davis Art Center at 756-4100 or go online to davisartcenter.org.

The Senior Flute Choir is for advanced flute students
