After The Hunger Project UK’s successes of two sell-out concerts at the Apollo Victoria and the Royal Albert Hall in 2011 and 2012 respectively, this year’s World Hunger Day events move to an equally iconic venue - PizzaExpress Jazz Club in Soho, which was redesigned in April and now features artwork celebrating its jazz roots. Since 1969, PizzaExpress Jazz Club has welcomed on its stage some of the world’s greatest musicians including Ella Fitzgerald and Amy Winehouse.
This year, World Hunger Day 2013 falls on 28th May 2013 and will be celebrated throughout the extended May Bank Holiday weekend with six exciting shows (26th and 28th May 2013 inclusive). The entire weekend will be hosted by Award-winning Broadcaster, Journalist, Singer and Actress, Jumoké Fashola.
According to Joe McElderry, who will be headlining two sessions at PizzaExpress on World Hunger Day 2013, 28th May, itself:-
“I was brought into the fold of The Hunger Project UK last year when I performed on stage at the Royal Albert Hall with the legendary Dionne Warwick, where we performed the world première of ‘One World One Song’. This track will be launched globally as a digital Single on 27th May and I am really excited to be dedicating my shows to ‘One World One Song’ and fundraising for The Hunger Project UK.”
