Chuchito Valdés Live in The Greene Space!

(New York, NY—May 21, 2013) Acclaimed Latin jazz pianist, Chuchito Valdés, following in the footsteps of his famed father, Chucho Valdés and grandfather Bebo Valdés, continues the legacy of great piano players from Cuba.

On Thursday, June 13, Chucito Valdés will record his next album in front of a live studio audience at The Jerome L Greene Performance Space at WNYC.

The album will pay homage to his late grandfather, Bebo Valdés, who passed away this past March, with music from The Tropicana between the late 40’s to the late 50’s and musical works from his own contemporary repertory. With influences of Caribbean rhythms and jazz, Chucito Valdés creates an exciting and energetic blend of music that consistently excites audiences all over the world. This piano master will perform with a 14-piece Latin jazz band.

"We are excited to record our next project, a tribute to my grandfather, in The Greene Space,” said Valdés. “We will celebrate Bebo's legacy and impact around the world by going back to the beginning and performing his arrangements from the Tropicana Nightclub in Havana, where he played the 1950s.  This is something he would have been very proud of and humbled by, since despite his greatness, he was a very modest man."

The audience will have two chances to be part of the album recording session. At 7pm Valdés will perform several songs and will sit down to talk about his career and his inspiration to record his newest album. At 9pm, the dance party begins with a full-on set of music from Valdés. Tickets are available for both parts of the event at www.thegreenspace.org.
