Downbeat, Tuesday. The Wenatchee Jazz Workshop begins its 13th annual run. This is a week of unique hands-on, face-to-face musical education, offered by some of the world’s best musicians on behalf of students in Wenathee and Eastmont schools.
The Wenatchee Jazz Workshop is an enormously inspirational project, and there is nothing else quite like it. Top jazz musicians from Los Angeles and New York spend nearly a week side by side with students. They teach, advise, play the same music and eventually perform together. The students learn what their music sounds like when played by the best. They set new goals and higher standards. They receive inspiration and motivation for a lifetime.
The program was the brainchild of now-retired Wenatchee middle school music teacher Jeff Sandberg, and in 13 years the community support has never been broader or deeper.
The week’s highlights include a must-see performance by the professionals at the Performing Arts Center Thursday. It will be followed by the joyous climax, a performance with professionals and students from Wenatchee and Eastmont middle and high schools Saturday. Both concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. Get tickets at the PAC box office.
