WILMETTE — Across the world this week, music helped people usher 2012 out and see 2013 in.
In Wilmette, however, library patrons and music lovers alike welcomed the new year just a little early — on Dec. 28 — thanks to the library’s newest tradition: New Year with Jazz.
Not only did a small crowd of jazz aficionados enjoy an evening concert by the Terra Jazz Project duo that night, they ended the evening and greeted the incoming year with a sparkling non-alcoholic toast.
It’s the third year running for the early New Year’s celebration said Bonnie Forkosh, the library’s head of community services
“The event has kind of taken off,” she said Dec. 26. “People are in a mellow mood, and this year it’s just before what’s going to be a long weekend for many of them. This year (the concert) is not quite as close to New Year’s was it was the first two years, but I think people will enjoy it.”
As Forkosh has done since the concert’s 2010 inception, she looked for young local musicians to showcase and found them at Glenview’s Terra Sound School of Music and Arts.
