A Naha City-sponsored series of music events called “Jazz
Night in Naha” kicked off at an open space in front of Naha City Tembus Culture
Hall on Dec, 1.
The Dec. 1 event marks the first of a series of 24 live Jazz
performance that are scheduled to run through February next year at Saion
Square, the open space in front of Tenbus Hall, and the open town squares in
front of Palette Kumoji and Tomarin as the alternating main venues.
Many musicians from Okinawa Prefecture will perform on the
stage at the events that consists of two to three sets of performances from 6
p.m. to 9 p.m. each day. Admission to
the performances is free.
The opening ceremony was held on Dec. 1 with Naha City Mayor
Takeshi Onaga and people influential in local music scene cutting the ceremonial
ribbon.
The live performer on the opening day was the University of
the Ryukyus Jazz Circle band,
