Big band music keeps Heritage Park

Ballroom dance champion Mathilda "Tillie" Klein came to the Adams Theater at Heritage Park to swing and sway to the sounds of the Anthum Jazz and Swing Dance Band.
Klein, 94, is a YouTube sensation with 921,000 hits for her "Mathilda's Solo" ballroom dance video. She's part of a group of 100 or so ballroom dance enthusiasts at Heritage Park West. Some swayed in their seats, occasionally clapping as other seniors took to the dance floor recently to enjoy the big band sounds.
"There's one lady on the dance floor who just got out of the hospital. We have a couple out there dancing right now who lost a spouse and another that's widowed. … They come here to our dances, hook up and find a new flame to enjoy life with," said Nancy Weiss-Aronson, director of marketing and recreation at Heritage Park West Independent Living.
One dancer gyrated her hips as she held onto her walker, creating a buzz in the Adams Theater as residents and staffers smiled and clapped along. Instantly, the dance floor filled up. Klein then popped up, grabbed a partner and began to wow peers with her dance floor prowess.
"I'm a ballroom dance champion," Klein said. "Next week I'm dancing a competition over in Tampa. I've been dancing all my life. I've had the same dance partner for 12 years."
