Jakob Bro
Jakob Bro is a guitarist and composer working and living in
Copenhagen, Denmark. Already at young age, Bro became part of late Paul Motian
& The Electric Bebop band, and since then also permanent member of Tomasz
Stanko Quintet, appearing on both Paul Motian Band’s “Garden of Eden (ECM) and
Tomasz Stanko’s “Dark Eyes (ECM) recordings.
His recent releases as a bandleader include “Balladeering”
and “Time” with contributions from such household jazz names as Bill Frisell,
Lee Konitz, Paul Motian, Ben Street and Thomas Morgan. Other recent
collaborations and activities include touring, recording, and performing with
Tom Harrell, Joe Lovano and Hank Roberts. On July 6th 2012, Bro released a new
jazz/electronica collaboration album “Bro/Knak” with Thomas Knak – featuring,
among others, Paul Bley and Kenny Wheeler.
Bro has won four Danish Music Awards, he is included in
JazzDenmark’s Hall of Fame and received the Jazz Special’s price for Danish
Jazz Release of the Year in 2009 and DJBFA’s Honorary Award 2012.
Thomas Morgan
Thomas Morgan is considered one of the most prolific bass
players to come out of the US scene in recent years. His activities alone
signal the demand for his unique approach to the instrument – these include
playing and recording with artists such as Paul Motian, Jim Black, and John
Abercrombie.
Most of all Morgan is an exceptional soloist as well as a subtle
time keeper, performing with a personal voice that is both awe-inspiring
virtuoso and warmly inviting. On Jakob Bro’s album Time (2011) this fascinating
diversity of Morgan’s playing stands out brilliantly, as the deliberate
exclusion of a drummer allows him to take both rhythmical and melodic leads.
Jon Christensen
Jon Christensen is a legendary Norwegian jazz percussionist.
In the late 1960s he played alongside Jan Garbarek on several recordings by the
composer George Russell.
Over the past thirty years Christensen has played drums and
percussion on fully fifty-five releases from the esteemed German jazz label ECM
with such artists as Keith Jarrett, Jan Garbarek, Bobo Stenson, Eberhard Weber,
Ralph Towner, Barre Phillips, Enrico Rava, John Abercrombie, Michael Mantler,
Miroslav Vitous, Rainer Brüninghaus, Charles Lloyd, Dino Saluzzi and Tomasz
Stanko.
Although Christensen can play straight time with the best of
'em - always on a brutally heavy old Turkish K - he'd rather mix it up a
little. You hear Jon's diverse approaches on his ECM “Rarum” release, eloquent
testimony to his status as a master of modern jazz drumming. Other “Rarum”
honourees include Chick Corea, Jack DeJohnette, Pat Metheny, Dave Holland, Gary
Burton, Keith Jarrett, and Bill Frisell.
