Dennerlein - New CD "Spiritual Movement No. 3"

New CD "Spiritual Movement No. 3" - release party on September 7th!

Barbara Dennerlein will present her new CD with a concert at exactly the same venue where it has been recorded: the Parish Church in Fehring, Austria. Barbara performed at the "Rieger" Organ and was accompanied by guitarist Edi Köhldorfer. Thus, the motto of the CD is:

"The master of the Church Organ in jazzy dialogue with guitar!"

This new CD is a milestone that marks Barbara's way beyond the instrument's traditional expressiveness, creating new paths of exciting dialogues between pipe organ and guitar. Barbara's magic performance on the "Rieger" organ unleashes overflowing richness of sounds and phenomenal grooves. With discreet support by synthesizer she has created a brand new sound-scape, giving new life and magnificence to the orchestral character of her compositions. With her open mind for new developments in music - and not only in jazz - she opens doors for the pipe organ and once again plays the role of a pathfinder for innovation in music. With her brilliant technique, her ambidextrousness of hands and feet and her own unique compositions, she has created an innovative and unmistakable style over the past three decades, opening new dimensions for the Hammond organ which had been neglected in jazz for far too long. Her music was, and still remains, unique and outstanding. It's her credit that the organ has regained prominence in jazz - not only the Hammond but now also the pipe organ.

Samir H. Köck, music journalist, Die Presse, Vienna had this to say: "Germany’s most famous female Jazz export, the magnificent Barbara Dennerlein, renowned for her virtuosity on the Hammond B3, has been performing more and more concerts on pipe organs in recent years. At the Austrian festival "Most & Jazz", presented by Toni Eder, she bedazzled the audience demonstrating the kind of groove the massive pipe organ is capable of. Together with the formidable guitarist Edi Köhldorfer, Barbara thrilled the audience with passion, high energy and technical brilliance. This exhilarating concert has finally been captured on this CD, and will delight the listener with sublime ecstasy of tonal colours and delicate groove. This performance with its spirituality and earthiness, united in such a sophisticated way, is a great moment that would be a shame to miss."

The press has been already informed about the upcoming release. Radio Lippewelle will present the new album during a radio show on August 30th 9 PM (CEST), including an interview with the organist (live stream: www.lippewelle.de).

"Köllefornia" editor Horst Tress writes in pleasant anticipation: "this CD is a must for fastidious ears". Barbara gave him a short interview:

H.T.: Since when do you play music and how did you get in touch with the organ?

B.D.: I played my first concerts when I was 13. The organ was a Christmas gift of my Grandfather and I immediately fell in love with the Hammond sound when I heard it for the first time.

H.T.: Do you have role models in organ music?

B.D.: I developed my own style quite early, and it differs much from the way other organists play. It has always been more important to me to follow my own feelings and perception. In general, good musicians are always inspiring but I can't tell that certain musicians were role models for me.

H.T.: When will you be on tour so that we can listen to your music in concerts in Germany?

B.D.: Generally I'm touring world-wide throughout the year, with a break here and then. Of course, I play many concerts in Germany. You can find my tour dates on my website www.barbaradennerlein.com. There you can also find also a large selection of CD's, and the visitor can listen to sound samples of some tracks from each album.

"Musenblätter" editor Frank Becker takes a look at the whole row of Barbara's "Spiritual Movement" CD's: "With her pipe organ trilogy Barbara Dennerlein follows masterly George Gruntz's footsteps... In 'Spiritual Movement No. 3' she features a musical partner for the first ime, guitarist Edi Köhldorfer. After the solo organ opening track he supports the swinging (yes, this church organ swings!) 'The Unforgettable' and the following five pieces."

The fact, that some titles of the new album are also on one of the previous CD's lets the author start a comparison between the recordings and his result is: "Also in direct comparison you are not able to decide which version could be your favourite. Barbara's virtuosity and temper drags you away with each title. It's refreshing to figure out how the audience must have abandoned itself to Swing, Blues and Funk in the sacred surrounding of a church hall. The intermediate applause proves this. Barbara Dennerlein masters all the voices and moods which the 'Queens of the instruments' provide: sometimes she plays the keys softly, sometimes resolute... 'Pendel der Zeit' appears as a mighty Memento mori in the nave of Fehring's parish church - which suits quite well to a baroque church as a denominantion to transitoriness.

Spiritual Movement No. 3 also has fusion elements regarding gutarist Edi Köhldorfer's appearance and the supporting synthesizer sounds here and then.

Spritual Movement No. 1 - No. 3: a recommendation of the 'Musenblätter' editorial staff. If you should have the chance to go to a Spiritual Movement concert, don't miss it!"
