KU and Fleetwood Jazz ensembles join forces in WWII musical battle of bands

Kutztown University’s Department of Music Jazz Studies Area presents the 8th Annual Big Band Bash on Friday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the McFarland Student Union Multipurpose Room. This event features KU Jazz Ensembles I and II locked in a classic Battle of the Bands playing big band swing music from the World War II era. The music of Glenn Miller, Harry James, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Benny Goodman and many more WWII-era bands will be highlighted.

KU jazz vocal professor and Harry James alums Cathy Chemi vocals, and Skip Sitne lead trumpet, will be featured. The Fleetwood High School jazz ensemble, “Cadillacs” will open the festivities.

This event is minimal cost for ticket at the door and free to KU staff and students. All proceeds will go to the KU Jazz Studies Scholarship Fund.
