"Las Aventuras de Pasión" Come On An Adventure With Me!

“Parra is a jazz singer with a musical sensibility that’s as distinctive as it is eclectic.”
Phillip van Vleck –Billboard Magazine
“What sets Parra apart from so many Latin-jazz vocalists is her passion for mixing and blending musical styles. Parra has developed an unusual repertoire marked by rhythmic sophistication and unpredictable song choices.”
Andrew Gilbert – San Jose Mercury News
My name is Kat Parra and I am a Latin/World Jazz vocalist. I sing in English, Spanish, Portuguese and the dying language of Ladino (the language of the Spanish Jews). Since quitting my corporate job in 2006, I’ve released 3 CDs and had the opportunity to perform in Amsterdam, Brazil and Mexico, as well as the SF Bay Area, Chicago and Washington State. I am now hoping this new CD will get me to even more locations (near you?) and take my career to new levels. My music is eclectic, inspiring, fun and engaging and with each new project I try to challenge myself (and my listeners) to grow more. This new project is my most daring to date...
“Las Aventuras de Pasión.” A musical adventure full of passion that journeys around the globe combining the voice with instruments and rhythms to create a vibrant and exotic world music sound. The majority of the songs have been created with a sparseness to showcase the voice with varied instrumentation. I have pulled from classical music, afro-cuban, middle-eastern, afro-peruvian and all the way to the ancient sounds of Sephardic music (music of the Spanish Jews). It is amazing how well all these different styles live so harmoniously together! For this project I have paired the voice with many ensemble configurations to create a sound that is fresh and new to the listener’s ears: a string quartet with marimba; a song with tabla, shakuhachi and cello; another Sephardic song that uses sacred batá drums and percussion; and another with a typical afro-peruvian ensemble. And so much more!
I’ve spent all my savings, used grant money and borrowed money from my mom to get this far with my new CD (over $15,000 - Yikes!). All 11 songs have been arranged and recorded, the musicians have been paid, the producer (Grammy-nominated Wayne Wallace), recording engineer (Gary Mankin) and recording studios have been paid and 8 of the 11 songs have been mixed. But now I’m in a holding pattern until I can raise enough funds to finish the CD and launch it into the world. I think I’ll be able to earn enough money to finish the mixing part but I need help with the final stages of launching this project: mastering ($1000), graphic design for the CD packaging ($500), physical CD manufacturing to send to radio and press ($2500) as well as hiring a radio promoter ($3000) and a PR firm ($3000).
With your help I am hoping to have more opportunities to reach wider markets with my music. The goal is that with greater radio airplay and press reviews around the world I will be invited to perform in more locations and be able to spread my music to international audiences. By pre-ordering the CD (and getting it before it is officially released), you will be helping me realize this dream of launching my new CD into the world. I have come up with many special gifts to include with your donation, but please feel free to donate any amount you wish. Every dollar gets me one step closer to finishing this CD and bringing it to you. Take a look to your right and see all the wonderful things I am offering when you contribute to this project.
Thank you so much for your support!
