Two local organizations are
teaming up to pay tribute to one of the greats of jazz music, who happens to be
from right here in Roanoke. Friday, the Jefferson Center -- with help from the
Harrison Museum of African American Culture -- opened it's Don Pullen exhibit.
The exhibit includes photos,
paintings, and recordings of the late piano player.
Pullen was born in Roanoke in
1945, and went on to sell out concert halls, play with some of the biggest
names in jazz, and perform all over the world.
"Don Pullen is an exceptional
example of the great art that happens in and around Roanoke city," said
Cyrus Pace, Executive Director at the Jefferson Center. "He, without
question, went on to build one of the most notable careers in the music
