The JAC announces 2012 season and new ticket offers

The Jazz Artists of Charleston (JAC) conclude a terrific 2011 season with a holiday-themed program titled Charleston Holiday Swing at 7 p.m. on Wed. Nov. 23 at the Charleston Music Hall. Led by conductor and trumpeter Charlton Singleton, the Charleston Jazz Orchestra — Charleston’s own “resident big band” — will perform the “jazz version” of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker (as written by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn), plus a variety of popular pieces.

The JAC recently announced the concert series and ticket information for its 2012 season at the Charleston Music Hall. The first concert of the year is Symphonic Swing, featuring works from the traditional and orchestral repertoire of major composers, set for Sat. Jan. 28. The series includes additional shows in March, May, September, October, and November.

The JAC has a new format for the events. There will be one theme per night with two different sets of music. They’ve designed tiered-seating price levels as well: “Vanguard” seats are front orchestra and front/center balcony; “Savoy” seats are orchestra and side balcony; and “Birdland” seats are rear orchestra, rear balcony, and side-stage balcony. Specially priced season passes are available for adults, seniors, and students.
