From Barbara Dennerlein

Organ Boogie at AAJ

The All About Jazz Website features some audio files from different artists. Barbara chose the "Organ Boogie" from her latest album Bebabaloo.

About the album/track it is said: "A real hot swinging boogie from the live album Bebabaloo with Barbara Dennerlein (Hammond organ, B3 & footpedal bass), Peter Lehel (tenor sax) and Marcel Gustke (drums). Dennerlein plays the typical boogie accompaniment with her left foot using a specially sampled bass sound. Her organ and footpedal bass is equipped with midi-system. By triggering sampler and synthesizers BD has a wide range of sound possibilities."

Editor's comments: "Wow! A fiery tune to fight back against the blues. Spirit of the live performance comes through nice and strong. Enjoy!"

Concert photos

In October the Barbara Dennerlein Duo performed at the Jazz Club in Bielefeld. Barbara was accompanied by the American drummer Drori Mondlak. The club was sold out and the musicians nearly did not find their way through the crowd on stage...
The jazz club released some photos on its website:

Barbara Dennerlein played a Jazz concert in July in the St. George Church in Seebergen. First she played the new reconstructed organ of Ernst-Ludwig Hesse. In the second part of the concert she played her Hammond organ. Some photos are released here:

Incitation

Barbara's music is an incentive for other musicians to practise on cover versions. Besides CD's of other bands with one or another Dennerlein composition we recently discover more and more YouTube clips. Now Cameron Forrester from England released an own version of "Swing The Blondes" It is explained:

“Me Playing 'Swing The Blondes' by Hammond Organist Barbara Dennerlein on my Hammond XK-C3. Please excuse any mistakes, but honestly, try and act out what I'm doing with my body and how fast... ...then you will realise that Barbara Dennerlein is a MACHINE!!!”

Well, Barbara is definitely not a machine, but it takes much experience and intuition to master high technical challenge in a literally playful way.

Explaining Barbara's Organ

A new thread opened on The Organ Forum website. The chat goes about a video clip from concert in 1989 that shows Barbara's Hammond B3 organ and a keyboard with "Hohner" stickers. Is it really a Hammond? Or a clone?? Or a special customized instrument??? Well, the truth is that these stickers were nothing else but a tribute to the Hohner speaker equipment in the background. At that time, the keyboards of the Hammond were not yet MIDI-fied and Barbara played also keyboard for piano or vibraphone sounds. If you are a member of the forum you might help to unravel the mystery.
