Jazz Arts Initiative to Host Improv Workshop – Oct. 29

Charlotte - Charlotte’s Jazz Arts Initiative is teaming up with the UNC Charlotte College of Arts + Architecture to present a free Jazz Workshop with international music educator Jamey Aebersold Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011 from 10:15 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The program is part of the Wells Fargo Community Celebration and will take place at the UNCC Center City Campus, located at 320 East 9th Street in Charlotte.


Musicians of all ages are invited to bring their instrument and improve their jazz playing skills with this exciting and intensive three-hour hands-on workshop. The workshop is free but space is limited so pre-registration is required at www.theJazzArts.org. For questions, contact 704-336-9350.

“Having a music educator the caliber of Jamey Aebersold coming to Charlotte is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for area musicians who are interested in learning more about jazz improvisation,” said Jazz Arts Initiative executive director, Lonnie Davis. “His skill and ability to engage and involve his audience for a true hands-on learning experience will be something they will never forget.”

The Jamey Aebersold workshop is made possible through the generous support of Wells Fargo as part of the Wells Fargo Community Celebration. Davis added, “We are extremely grateful to our partners, Wells Fargo, the Arts and Science Council and UNC Charlotte College of Arts and Architecture for making this rare music education opportunity available to the Charlotte region. We look forward to bringing musicians of all ages and experience levels together for a fun time. We'll all get to learn and jam together with Jamey.”

About Jamey Aebersold
Jamey Aebersold is an internationally recognized musician and music educator who revolutionized the way jazz improvisation is taught through the introduction of his Play-A-Long series in 1967. With over 130 jazz education volumes and CD sets to his credit, Aebersold has been responsible for changing the practice habits of thousands of musicians around the world. He has also conducted his Summer Jazz Workshop sessions at the University of Louisville for over 40 years.
