presenting music by a genuinely innovative musician, reflecting the 80's spent
in creative improvised music, the 90's as an apprentice in noted traditional jazz
orchestras on tour in Europe, South America and USA and the recent decade as a
celebrated solo performer and bandleader developing an original musical
expression, through the legacy of mentors legendary Icons of American Music and
Jazz Jimmy Giuffre, Paul Bley, George Russell and Joe Maneri, by whom he in
turn is described as Virtuosic, Original and Highly Exceptional.
Due to the significantly varied nature of his unique artistry, referring to a multi, or non-genre aesthetic, consistently met with mixed reviews ranging from inimitable, impressive and groundbreaking to far-fetched, erroneous categorizations or flat out trashing and with his legacy perhaps in some ways more accurately and truthfully defined and reflected by his many prolific students that include some of today's most active, popular and influential acts in modern music.

advocate Sten Hostfalt has developed an original expression drawing upon an
extensive orchestral jazz experience alongside some of the world's most
innovative improvisers, academic classical training both as an instrumentalist
and composer, with humble beginning as initially self-taught and shaped by an
activity on the 80's European progressive independent DIY art and music scene
where a pronounced aesthetic of collectively orchestrated individual
expression, production and distribution was central.
Sten Hostfalt is recognized by international press, the creative music community, leading educational institutions and audiences alike, as one of few instrumentalists, to in a variety of idioms, with self-invented techniques for interpreting Ezra Sims and Joe Maneri's equal tempered 72 note system on the 6 string/12 fret guitar, on a regular basis live in concert systematically explore and create new music beyond the equal tempered 12-tone system, updating the vocabulary for the most popular instrument of our time—the guitar.
