From California With Love

From California With Love is a wonderful charity CD born out of love. Responding to the earthquake/tsunami disaster which struck Japan in March 2011, jazz musicians and singers who had been associated with SSJ Records of Japan came together to help and send a positive musical message to their friends. Most of the artists on this album had their CD or CDs released in Japan by SSJ Records and had performed in Japan via SSJ's invitations.

The idea came from wonderful singer/guitarist Diane Hubka, and renowned producerBill Reed helped getting the project together. Andy Waterman of Umbrella Media donated their studio time and recording, mixing and mastering services. All proceeds will be donated directly by SSJ to the Japanese Embassy for the continuing relief efforts.

The stellar lineup includes singers Sue Raney, Johnny Holiday, Leslie Lewis, Kurt Reichenbach, Diane Hubka, Tierney Sutton, Dick Noel, Frankie Randall and Pinky Winters. Pianists Alan Broadbent, Christian Jacob and Jim Cox contributed instrumental numbers.

Most of the tracks were recorded in April and May, 2011. The late Chris Connor makes a special appearance on "I Feel A Song Coming On" in the form of a 1987 live recording generously donated for this CD by her estate.
