Kat Parra - Latin World Ensemble

Hi There

I know it's been awhile since I wrote to tell you about what's been going on so I thought I'd break the silence! Spring has sprung, my favorite season of the year. My vegetable garden has been planted and my garden is in bloom. There are definitely some advantages to being back in my house in San Jose!

I have been extremely busy teaching music this school year in Oakland and it becomes more and more rewarding with every day that passes. I love teaching to children at the elementary school level as well as teaching my private students, both young and "mature"! I am blessed to be able to sustain my music career through teaching.

I have also been working on developing my next CD. This next CD's working title is currently "More and Less" (Mas y Menos) and will find me pairing the voice (or voices) with different instruments. I am having fun deciding which unique instruments work well together and which songs to pair them with.

And then I thought you could help me by giving me your thoughts and ideas about what you'd like to hear my voice paired with. It doesn't have to be just one other instrument, but it also can't be as big as a symphony orchestra! :) The idea is to be open, sparse and more vulnerable on this latest project. I think it would be fun to include you in the pre-production process and of course if I choose your instrumental idea, I will certainly give you credit on the CD! So, send me your ideas and let's see if we can't make some magic together! :)

In the meantime, I'll be performing from 5:30-6:30 on April 29th with the Francis Wong Ensemble in the Tel-Hi’s “Thrive Beyond” Jazz Concert in San Francisco. And on May 14th at the MACLA Art Auction in San Jose with Murray Low. This is a wonderful event to help raise money for MACLA (Movimiento de Arte y Cultura Latino Americana).

Murray and I will be performing from 6-7:30 while guests arrive, mingle eat tapas and ready themselves for the auction. I hope you can join us. If not, June promises to be a busy musical month for me and I hope that you can join me at either Senzala or the Bliss Bar the first weekend of June (4 and 5).
