WED 20TH:
Ambrose Akinmusire
UK debut for critically acclaimed rising-star trumpeter Akinmusire, a graduate of Steve Coleman"s band who has won acclaim from the likes of Quincy Jones and Hugh Masekela for his playing. He made a major impression when he appeared here last year as sideman with John Escreet"s New York band featuring David Binney.
Ambrose will be here playing music from his brilliant Blue Note Records debut "When The heart Emerges Glistening", a powerful exercise in intelligent interplay and subtle melodic development. His original material draws on contemporary swing and pop hooks with startling virtuosity to devastating effect and Akinmusire looks set to be one of jazz"s biggest contemporary stars.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - |
