JJA conference schedule, registration available

The schedule for “New Media for New Jazz,” the JJA’s second annual conference in New York City, being held from January 7 through 11, has taken shape, and registration is now open. As previously reported,  the conference will include a series of panel discussions, town hall meetings, workshops to be held at the Sheraton NY, and a Friday afternoon cocktail party– all  free, though registration is required.
APAP members are specially invited to attend the JJA  sessions– as are interested others.  JJA members are urged to come and to invite unaffiliated colleagues and students with strong interests in jazz and journalism.
The JJA Conference was organized to coincide with the APAP convention — which brings together jazz presenters from across the country – as well as to showcase spectacular Winter Jazzfest ( which JJA members  may attend for free if they register in advance) and to overlap with events around the National Endowment for the Arts’ 2011 Jazz Masters inductions, including the Jazz Masters January 11 concert at Jazz at Lincoln Center.
This year’s conference “New Media for New Jazz” focuses on changes in jazz journalism and visions of its future. Issues such as entrepreneurial journalism, multi-media reporting, freelancing for local websites and search optimization for bloggers will be discussed; the JJA’s new eyeJAZZ.tv initiative will be introduced, developments in long form features will be analyzed and special attempts will be made to find common cause with presenters and musicians in work sessions slated for the afternoons of Sunday, Jan 9 and Monday, Jan 10.
A cocktail party Friday, Jan 7 at Faces and Names, 159 W. 54th St, offers conference attendees another chance to socialize, gripe and schmooze; at APAP’s concluding Jazz Forum, on Tuesday Jan 11, JJA members are invited to learn what APAP conventioneers have been discussing, and to speak up for ourselves about journalistic imperatives.
The complete JJA Conference schedule is below along with information about APAP and NEA sponsored events that JJA members can attend. Please register for the JJA events and contact President@jazzjournalists.org with questions, requests, comments, etc.
