Concert Review: Stained Radiance at NYC Winter JazzFest

One show I'm sorry I missed at the 2011 NYC Winter JazzFest was that of Stained Radiance, Nels Cline and Norton Wisdom's multi-media improvisational duo. According to several audience members i talked to, the show was the highlight of the festival, and utterly mesmerizing. Luckily, my cohort Douglas Detrick was there, and here he shares his thoughts:

"Neither artist was afraid to destroy something he had created in order to create something new. We often think of painting as a lasting form, worthy of preservation in museums for generations. Stained Radiance, to the contrary, was living and breathing, flirting with ephemeral vitality and continual birth and death. The humanity in Wisdom's symbolism, along with the temporary nature of Cline's music were optimally equipped to hit upon this profound and elusive artistic target.
