 Octogenarian Jazz Master Celebrates with Concerts

Dear Readers;
Please find below a release for Bob Erlendson’s 80th Birthday Celebration as submitted by his daughter Jessica.

Turning 80 in January, revered Canadian composer and jazz piano-man Bob Erlendson is doing just that.  “I am so lucky,” said Erlendson. “I’ve been able to make a living playing music all of my adult life.  I can definitely say Jazz is my longest and greatest love affair.”

Performing a collection of original tunes and timeless standards January 14 and 15, 2011 at Calgary’s BEAT NIQ Jazz & Social Club, Erlendson leads The Bob Erlendson Quintet on piano, with Tyler Hornby on drums, Eric Friedenberg on sax, Al Muirhead on trumpet and Simon Fisk on bass.

With a career spanning six decades, Bob Erlendson has been a teacher, mentor, friend and colleague to a veritable who’s who of the Canadian jazz scene and has performed with such luminaries as Boss Brass’s Rob McConnell, Don Thompson, Ed Bickert, Pepper Adams, Phil Dwyer, PJ Perry, Pat Labarbara, and Lenny Breau.  He was spotlighted in the documentary film about Lenny’s life, The Genius of Lenny Breau.
Erlendson looks forward to the spring release of the live recording, All About Jazz Volume II, which features performances by Juno Award-winning drummer Terry Clarke and Russ Little on trombone.
