Hot Jazz in South Florida

South Florida Jazz — the Sunshine State’s premier jazz organization — has announced its 2010-11 Concert Series Lineup, and it’s a good one. The season kicks off with Chick Corea (pictured above) playing a solo-piano concert on November 20. As with all of the shows slated for this year’s series, Corea will perform at Fort Lauderdale’s Miniaci Performing Arts Center. Following Corea’s performance, some of the top names in jazz fill out the remainder of the series’ itinerary, with one show a month scheduled from January through
July 2011. Here’s the rundown:

January 8: Christian McBride & Inside Straight
February 12: Brazilian Trio (Helio Alves, Nilson Matta and Duduka Da Fonseca) with guest Vic Juris
March 12: We Four (Javon Jackson, Mulgrew Miller, Peter Washington and Jimmy Cobb): Celebrating John Coltrane
April 9: Amina Figarova Sextet
May 14: Martin Bejerano Trio
June 11: Kurt Elling
July 9: Vista All-Stars
