Amy Briggs brings to life a variety of tangos from different composers on Tangos for Piano. Proposed by composers from UC Davis, the disc features works from Laurie San Martin, Yu-Hui Chang, Pablo Ortiz, Ross Bauer, Yvar Mikhasoff’s International Tango Collection, Astor Piazzolla, and many more. The different backgrounds and compositional variety of each composer highlight the breadth and possibilities of the tango,
which Briggs captures impeccably on the solo piano.
Amy Briggs is currently pianist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s MusicNOW ensemble. She has performed as soloist and chamber musician across the United States, Europe, Africa, Australia, and Asia.
Her previous recordings include the music of August Read Thomas; the music of Nancarrow, Feldman, Varèse, and Oña; and David Rakowski’s Piano Etudes. Briggs earned her PhD in Musical Performance at Northwestern University under Ursula Oppens, the university’s John Evans Distinguished Professor of Music.
