Pianist, composer, and bandleader Guillermo Klein has spent more than a decade presenting some of the most challenging and beautiful music that the Latin Jazz world has ever heard. His newest release, Domador De Huellas hits the world this week, but Patrick Jarenwattananon over at A Blog Supreme has been checking out the album early, and he goes into detail about his thoughts on Klein’s music. It’s a thought-provoking read.
All right, did that get you in the mood to hear Klein’s new album? If it did, you’re in luck, NPR just happens to be streaming the whole thing up until the album release this Tuesday. It’s great stuff - Klein really pushes the envelope on Latin Jazz. Do don’t hesitate; go check out Guillermo Klein’s Domador De Huellas in it’s entirety.
This past weekend held a mother load of jazz festivals on the East Coast . . . well, actually there were two big ones, but they held enough great music to account for many, many festivals. If you were like me, you were elsewhere this past weekend, just wishing that you could check out the great music.
On Saturday, my thoughts were in Litchfield, Connecticut, where The Gabriel Alegria Afro-Peruvian Jazz Sextet, Dave Samuels And The Caribbean Jazz Project, and Arturo O’Farrill And The Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra were performing. That’s an incredible line-up, and according to The Hartford Courant, it was an incredible show.
Then there was that other festival over the weekend . . . the Newport Jazz Festival, which had some fantastic acts as well this year. I really wanted to check this out too, but NPR eased my pain by streaming the majority of the shows live. If you missed the stream, have no fear - NPR Music has kindly archived a good number of these performances on their site for you to check out at your leisure. Feel free to head over and hear some great music (including a memorable set from Brazilian Jazz group Trio Da Paz!).
