Ava Logan is an award winning singer-actress from Washington, D.C., who now lives in the Chicago area. The classically trained vocalist has performed jazz, pop, and rhythm and blues in the U.S. and abroad! She has portrayed two of her idols, Ella Fitzgerald and Nancy Wilson, at the Black Ensemble Theater. More recently, she has appeared at some of Chicago’s most esteemed music venues including the Chicago Cultural Center, Millennium Park, Maxim’s for the City of Chicago, The Drury Lane Theater, and at the jazz venues.
In 2008, Ava released her first major CD entitled, So Many Stars! It was produced by Henry Johnson, who played guitar for Joe Williams for many years. She worked with world renowned musicians on this project, Larry Novak (who has played for Nancy Wilson, Natalie Cole and Sarah Vaughn) on piano, Larry Gray on bass, and Leon Joyce on drums (the latter two gentlemen presently of the Ramsey Lewis trio).
Ava peppers her sets with some popular show tunes, and standard jazz selections, while throughout the set leaving room for her ensemble to express their musical opinions, without straying away from the melody of the song. Watching Ava perform is such a pleasure as she interacts with the audience and often playfully entices their participation. When it comes to class, Ava Logan epitomizes that word. She's classy and jazzy, and on this night performed with style.
