The late Broadway composer and lyricist Frank Loesser would be turning 100 this June 29, to the tune of several revivals of his stage works. Jazz musicians likely know his name as the writer behind more than a few standards. Photo: Paramount Pictures
To this end, his estate's publishing company and publicist have put together a five-song sampler of jazz takes on Loesser tunes. You may very well recognize some of these as classic recordings: Nancy Wilson's "Never Will I Marry" (with Cannonball Adderley), one of the live versions of "Slow Boat To China" by Charlie Parker, the Miles Davis Quintet's "If I Were A Bell" with its famous chimes introduction.
Chet Baker and Rahsaan Roland Kirk are also up in here. And you can download the songs too! Check the playlist for details. [MPL Music Publishing: Frank Loesser Jazz Playlist > http://www.mplcommunications.com/desktopplayer.asp?id=LoesserJazzPlaylist&s=386703188&group=]
