Alumni update: Sparky Koerner

Sparky Koerner (M.M.Ed 1976) is current President-Elect for Texas Jazz Educators Association. He will take over as president in July 2010. Sparky is director of the College of the Mainland Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo and serves as Chairman of the Fine Arts Department. The COM Jazz Ensemble performed a concert on April 13, 2010 with guest artist, pianist Larry Ham from New York. Larry did two clinics for the students and demonstrated wonderful piano and compositional and arranging skills with charts that he sent for the Jazz Combo and Jazz Ensemble to perform.

The COM Jazz Ensemble will perform at the Jazz Educators Network Conference on May 21, 2010 at 3 pm on the NOSH Showcase Stage in the Millennium Student Center located on the University of Missouri - St. Louis campus. Sparky is in his 26th year as director of Jazz Studies at College of the Mainland.
