A very special evening to launch the Dankworth Prize for Jazz Composition, including premieres of new works for big band composed by some of the country’s finest young jazz talent, and performed by the Trinity College of Music Jazz Ensemble - made all the more poignant by the recent passing of the great Sir John Dankworth.

A legend of Ronnie’s and ambassador of Cuban music. The Grammy Award-Winning pianist is an imaginative composer, virtuosic improviser, commanding bandleader and invaluable collaborator – he founded the group Irakere together with two other giants of Cuban jazz: Arturo Sandoval and Paquito D’Riviera - whose performances here in the 80’s and 90’s are the stuff of legend.
