The celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of one of the most popular Czech jazz bands will culminate with a concert in Vltavská.
November 19th, 2009Few Czech jazz formations are as significant in our history as the Traditional Jazz Studio, which celebrated its 50th anniversary on 8th November. To mark the occasion, the band has organized a series of concerts, which will culminate with a gala evening in Vltavská Cultural Centre.
The programme in Vltavská will be presented by the presenter and music publicist Miloš Skalka and will be an overview of the band’s repertoire (Spencer Williams, William Christopher Handy, Duke Ellington, Louis and Lil Armstrong, Antonín Bílý, Pavel Smetáček). It will be accompanied with a projection of excerpts documenting the band’s history.
The following members will perform at the gala evening: Pavel Smetáček – clarinet, Petr Karen – saxophone, Petr Hasman – cornet, Jaroslav Zelený – trombone, Antonín Bílý – piano, Ondřej Černil – double bass, Václav Král – percussion. Guests: František Havlíček – tenor saxophone and Pavel Husička – trumpet.
