Jussanam da Silva - The album title track, “Ela é carioca”

The albums title track, “Ela é carioca” literally means ”She is carioca”, one who was born in Rio de Janeiro, as was the vocalist artist Jussanam, who grew up with and was influenced by the Cariocas rhythm;

Samba and Bossa Nova. Jussanam is also an established actress, performing in a number of Brazilian television dramas; in the play “Adoráveis Romeu e Julieta” she became the first black ‘Juliet’ in the history of Brazilian theater. Other performances include “O Santo Parto” by Lauro César Muniz, which was awarded multiple nominations for the prestigious Brazilian ‘Shell prize’ in 2005.

She also worked dubbing movies, soap operas and animations, contracted by the Herbert Richers Studios for several years before moving to Europe. Jussanam has lived and worked in the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik since 2008, where she has collaborated with the bassist Tomas R. Einarsson, one of the Islands foremost Jazz musicians. She has as well collaborated with the Swedish pianist Harald Erici, with whom she performed in “Brasilicum” (Gothemburg-2009).
The music on this album was recorded live in a studio, and has an atmospheric and spontaneous feeling to the recordings. The purpose of the album was to record the songs as they were presented in my show with the band as we toured Iceland. “ Says Jussanam.
