This fine trombonist is the longtime bandmate of the great Sonny Rollins, and also Sonny’s nephew. His warm “chestnut tone” and distinctive style make him one of the modern greats on his instrument, and one of the few to live up to a legacy started by players like JJ Johnson or Curtis Fuller many years back. Appearances by everyone from Grady Tate (vocals) to Roy Hargrove (trumpet) to Esperanza Spalding (bass/vocals) on any given Tuesday complement just some of the artists including Gerald Clayton, Marcus Strickland, Casey Benjamin, Marc Cary, EJ Strickland, Ambrose Akinmusire, Gretchen Parlato, Marcus Gilmore, Luques Curtis.
