Uptown Band

"Twelve years ago we started to spread the traditional Blues in the Northeast of Brazil. Until 1997, the only show of traditional Blues who had come to Recife, was a show the Blues Etílicos, held in the late eighties. Our first show was in September 1997, Pub Downtown: the first house that opened a weekly schedule for the genre here in Recife.

In fact the Blues is considered the father of pop music world and is always present (directly and indirectly) in a variety of musical works by artists outside world will (Red Baron, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, James Brown, Beatles, etc.) Nevertheless, at that time there was a scene from "Blues" in our town, because it was still very confused with his "son": the Rock. It was common for artists of various styles from Recife, in the eighties, include in its repertoire, a "Blues" by Cazuza (or copyright music with the influence) or a ballad Blues Eric Clapton, but there's a job fair the traditional Blues with a solid schedule of shows and exchanges with big names of the genre, nationally and internationally.
I believe our greatest achievement has been able to include Recife and later the north (via Hi Blues), the select circuit of Blues concerts at international level that previously only happened in the south and southeast. Interestingly, our work has never been purist, because although we have the desire to learn the blues tradition, we are always trying to merge (I quote as an example our CDs, the Mississippi Capibaribe) the Blues with the music that earned Northeast memorable jam sessions with artists as diverse as "Andreas Kisser and Catita" Joe Brown and Big Chico "" Master and Salustiano UpTown, "Tico Santa Cruz and accordion Felipe France" etc.

The UpTown Band also has the merit of being the host (SENV the backing band for many guest artists) as the Project Hi Blues by Night, Port Jazz and Jazz Garanhuns. Today in day, our work is recognized throughout Brazil, the pioneering in promoting the Blues in the Northeast and possibly be the only band of Blues Brazilian to have played with all the big names of the Blues level. Furthermore, we have also made partnerships with big names from outside the Blues, rock artists and pop rock and our popular culture.
A know: Carlos Malta (Hermeto Pascoal), Andre Matos (Angra), Marcelo Martins (Ivan Lins and Djavan) Marcos Ottaviano (Blues Jeans), Andreas Kisser (Sepultura), Rodrigo Santos (Baron), Sarantis, Danny Vincent, Willie Nelson; Donny Nichillo (Santana and Buddy Guy); Cezar MICHILLI, Greg Wilson, Richard Chalk, Phil Guy, Fernando Noronha, Vasco Fae, Frank Solari, Zé Brown, Pacu, Bruce Ewan, Ivo Pessoa, Peter Madcat; Derico, George Israel (Kid Bee), Nasi (will!), JJ Jackson, Claudio Zolli, Deacon Jones (John Lee Hooker, Freddie King), Solon Fishbone, Lancaster, Flavio Naves, Anna Marie, Big Joe Manfra, Kenny Brown, Flávio Guimarães, Eddie C.
