The only certainty I had before was that the concert would be a great electric guitarist. Productions to be associated with the icy sound familiar seal ECM Germany could only imagine ethereal and atmospheric guitars. No fanfare. Apparently I was wrong to conclude the concert because my impression was that he had seen in years a musician wThe challenge was raised. A contemporary jazz trio whose training did not stop my attention because the rhythmic base that we visited was composed of a battery and a hammond organ.
And more over he had heard nothing of this training before. That's how conditioned I attended the concert, full of uncertainty the only certainty of credit and long production lead performer: John Abercrombie.
Abercrombie, sitting at one end of the stage, heading to his trio with only his eyes. Its quiet and no fuss style captivated me from the beginning. Moreover when observed playing calm and focused, with a restless hand thumb of right and left almost instinctively exploring the handle of his instrument was a warm speech generating sound that at times reminded us of the past stars on guitar but sound reflected a modern armed with a couple of ground effects, was like moving from a Charlie Chistian, Pat Metheny and John Scofield, all in one serving of genius from Abercrombie.
At the other end was a young organist named Versace, who served as bassist and harmonic trio mattress. I do not know yet if his left hand, or was it with his left foot restless?, Which marked the pulse throbbing in no way clear about this young musician made this furniture, how, or idea, I say technical issue.
At center stage was who for me was a pleasant surprise. Adam Nussbaum, renowned drummer, whom I saw for the first time live. A bald guy who looked like a retired boxer, a small battery mounted "sonor" I thought, how this big man would play in such a small instrument. Nussbaum led us both to the band as the audience to wonderful passages of tension, achieving spectacular for their skill and dexterity. This is not only touch those batteries with their dolls, measured, masters of their academic discourse was a whirlwind on the patches and brushes his nimble technique called wide attention, was able to create nicotine-laden atmosphere of a bar on the times, marked with his drum, his arms flying free but controlled on the cymbals. To him was enough to look at musicians who lined both to lead and emphasize musical passages.
Furthermore dared to joke with Abercrombie and thanked in Spanish, at the end of their work to a friendly audience at the end as if suspended in a deep sleep with loud cheers thanked delivery and honesty of the artists on stage. In short, prejudice were shot down, this certainty is legitimized and pleasure of witnessing three jazz masters of those times still resonates in my ears. A special thanks to good sound production room and gentleness with which treated these reviewers and the general public. ho owns a technology rich and humble as the great artists.
